In this project I am using settings mixing different size blocks to create a very individual layout.

Look closely at the second design to see what shape the blocks are … not all of them are square.

All Floral Cross block designs can be modified over and over, to create a very wide variety of blocks for use in quilt designs. In most of my quilt designs using the result of twisting and turning a basic Floral Cross it is hard to find a basic Floral Cross.
The centre block of the first design is nearly a basic cross, but with a little bit of extra.
The two designs have a mixture of borders using the same flower as all the other blocks, but modified to do a different job.
The first is my favourite ...

It has taken me a while to pick out my favourite for today, but I finally decided it is the second design.

The centre is four blocks, though I would make it as one block but twice as big as the rest of the blocks.
My first favourite of these two is the second one!
Very interesting, and my favourite for the day above.
A very neat and tidy collection of umbrella florals, but judging from the sounds outside, not a great day to be carrying an umbrella … rather windy!

Love the outer row of blocks in the second design!
read moreVery fiddly … I would be tempted to machine embroider the blocks for this one.
Less blocks in the second design, but would still at least think about machine embroidery!

The first design was a fee range garden, the second design a much more formal garden.

The colours in these designs are more like an English country garden than the colours found in much of the Australian bush.
The shapes are based on Australian native flowers, but the colours have been softened to pretty pastels. A lot of our native flora are bright red, orange and yellow and often have very dark green or rather grey foliage, but there are some with pretty colour variations in contrast to the bright strong colours.

Love the first design.
I like the second design too.

Note the pale pink border fabric … if I was using that fabric in a real quilt border I would cut it so that the pattern looked like the top and bottom borders … or the side borders.
In Electric Quilt all I had to do was click a couple of times to get the fabric the right way round.
I love the second design, and love the colours!
read moreLovely, but how would I quilt it? I would scatter a few birds, or fairies might be appropriate, flying around with a lot of filler, perhaps cross hatch.
Love the second design, and I would enlarge those quilted wreaths to fill the space between the border and the centre part of the design, then fill in with cross hatch, or perhaps stippling.
read moreNew bocks, new project file, and still searching fabric files for the perfect combination of fabrics, though I should have considered different colours. However, these are my favourite colours.
I love the second design, and the block collection is still growing, as at this point there were no border blocks, but they are coming.
I have been a bit slow to use new block collections as I get them started, and I have decided that I should try to add a new project file twice a month, every month for the year. I probably have enough unused block collections to ...
